School History 1971 - 1989

Spondon School was formed as part of the implementation of comprehensive education in Derby. Spondon Park Grammar and Spondon House School merged to form upper and lower School.

The sixth form that existed at Spondon Park Grammar continued until reorganisation and the formation of West Park Community School .

Mr Pitts was the first head, following his period as head of Spondon Park Grammar School. Mr Hughes joined the school as head in 1974 and went on to become the head of West Park Community School, as the school became on the reorganisation of secondary education in the county. Mr J Raw was the acting Head during the final year of the school, due to Mr Hughes secondment to the Derbyshire County Council.
